A Webinar on Adaptation Finance; (Reflections post Marrakech)
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank are convening in Marrakesh, Morocco, from October 9th to 15th. This marks a significant event, as it's the first time they have gathered on the African continent since 1973. These meetings provide a unique opportunity for world leaders to chart a course for success ahead of COP28. One key aspect of this opportunity is the potential to establish a new global financial architecture that aligns with the priorities and perspectives of African civil society, particularly on climate adaptation. It's important to place climate adaptation and grant-based finance at the forefront of the reform agenda. This approach can help ensure that Africa receives financial support without accumulating additional debt. As part of our commitment to advancing climate adaptation in Africa, Power Shift Africa will host a webinar titled Bridging the Gap: Africa's Adaptation Finance (Reflections Post Marrakech) on October 18th, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 3.30 pm EAT. This webinar will provide insights into the outcomes of the World Bank meetings and their implications for Africa's climate adaptation efforts. Join us for this informative discussion as we delve into the critical issues surrounding climate finance and adaptation in the African context.
