Power Shift Africa in collaboration with Climate Action Network (CAN) International and Africa Movement Building Space, hosted the inaugural Africa Energy Renaissance Conference (AERC) in Kenya. The 3-day conference held from August 30th to September 1st, 2023, convened key African actors from the energy sector to renew and sustain the African energy vision and chart a transformative course for Africa's sustainable energy future. At the close of this three-day event, stakeholders agreed to draft a common position paper on Africa’s renewable energy. Participants expressed feelings challenged, inspired, and empowered by the conference. They described their experience as "unity," "hopeful," "determined," "empowered" and “UBUNTU”. With the AERC as a catalyst building momentum towards the Africa Climate Summit and COP28, Power Shift Africa is driving the transformation of Africa's energy sector for a more sustainable future for the continent by calling for the phase-out of all fossil fuels.
