Power Shift Africa organised a side event during the Africa Climate Summit; a panel discussion focused on strengthening climate adaptation in Africa. The discussion delved into bridging critical implementation gaps and harnessing local solutions through collective action. Participants, including African leaders, researchers, gender champions, policy experts, and think tanks, shared their invaluable insights and best practices related to climate adaptation and resilience. The event highlighted the urgent climate change challenges to Africa's agriculture, food security, and ecosystem sustainability. It aimed to shine light on the substantial gaps in implementing climate adaptation strategies and importantly, proposed proactive solutions through the utilisation of local and indigenous knowledge. The session emphasised the importance of scaling up existing adaptation solutions such as agroecology, food sovereignty, and forest restoration to enhance African resilience against the effects of climate change. Additionally, the event addressed the critical need to secure adaptation finance to empower frontline communities in dealing with the impacts of climate change.
