Power Shift Africa (PSA) is a Nairobi-based think tank providing cutting edge analysis, solution-focused policy, and responsive media engagement from an African perspective, both within the continent and internationally.

PSA’s mission is to mobilise climate action in Africa, amplify African voices through increased efforts on media and public communications, and leverage this voice internationally.

 

Job Summary:

The Head of People and Operations will oversee the human resources function and the day-to-day operations of the organization. This person will be responsible for working with team leads to ensure that they have work plans, regular team and PSA-wide check-ins, performance reviews, and are kept on track to achieve their goals. They will work closely with the Executive Director to develop the organizational culture and implement policies and procedures to support PSA's mission and objectives.

This position is a key strategic role that will help in growing PSA and allowing the organization to build a unique and strong people oriented culture.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the HR function, including recruitment, onboarding, training and development, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Work with the Executive Director to shape and steer PSA’s organizational culture.
  • Co-create and work with the Executive Director to align PSA’s organizational culture and team structure with its mission, values, and strategic objectives Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that are consistent with best practices, legal requirements, and the organization’s mission and values.
  • Work with PSAs teams to develop and track both project and annual work plans.
  • Ensure that PSA employees have standardized and regular performance reviews.
  • Monitor and report on the organization’s performance and operational metrics, including working with the finance team in preparing the annual report.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes to improve the organization’s performance and effectiveness.
  •  Ensure people policies, procedures, and practices are in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations for all staff.
  • Advise the leadership team on strategic organizational design and staff needs.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Law or a related field
  • At least 7 years of experience in HR and operations management, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teams and stakeholders.
  • Understanding of relevant laws and regulations related to HR and non-profit management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and financial resources.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, and HR software.
