PIDA Master Plan Assessment Report. Currents of integration: Africa’s path to a shared, resilient grid
Africa’s infrastructure and energy development agenda is guided primarily by the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) and the Continental Power Systems Master Plan (CMP), which seek to strengthen regional integration, improve energy access, and support sustainable economic growth.
PIDA focuses on developing energy, transport, ICT, and water infrastructure, mobilizing significant investment and advancing hundreds of projects, while the CMP aims to create a unified continental electricity market through interconnected power systems and the African Single Electricity Market (AfSEM).
Together, these initiatives are designed to meet rapidly growing energy demand, expand renewable energy generation, and provide reliable electricity to more than one billion Africans by 2040.
