ENERGY CAMPAIGNER / COORDINATOR
About Power Shift Africa
Power Shift Africa (PSA) is a Pan-African think tank providing cutting-edge analysis, solution-focused policy, and responsive media engagement from an African perspective, both within the continent and internationally.
PSA’s mission is to mobilise climate action in Africa, catalyze and support impactful African networks and institutions, and amplify civil society and expert voices on the international stage.
About the Role
PSA is recruiting two Energy Campaigners to drive continent-wide, solutions-oriented campaigns that accelerate Africa’s just energy transition. As part of PSA’s Energy Team within a Pan-African think-do-tank, the successful candidate will fuse research, advocacy, coalition-building, and public mobilization to challenge fossil fuel expansion while advancing renewable and clean energy pathways that are socially inclusive, economically viable, and environmentally sustainable.
The role reports to the Just Transition Advisor, embedded in a team that promotes distributed, reliable, people-centered power systems and influences policy, finance, and public discourse across Africa. The successful candidate will translate PSA’s evidence-based analysis into compelling campaigns, elevating African voices and aligning stakeholders (communities, civil society, policymakers, financiers, and media) around just transition outcomes.
Operating at the nexus of research and action, the role shapes narratives, coordinates pan-African coalitions, engages media, and drives policy impact at national, regional, and multilateral levels (e.g., AU, MDBs, UNFCCC/COP). The successful candidate will build and execute holistic campaign strategies that expose the risks and costs of fossil fuel expansion (including coal, oil, gas, and high-risk nuclear pathways), advance distributed renewables and clean energy solutions with clear social protection, jobs, and equity outcomes, and influence decision-makers on finance, regulation, and implementation of just transition policies.
The successful candidate will also convert PSA’s research and publications into accessible, impactful messaging and advocacy toolkits, strengthen and coordinate movements and coalitions across countries and regions to amplify African leadership and community perspectives; and support media engagement to increase the visibility of African narratives and lived experiences in the energy transition.
