Investing in reliable, affordable, distributed, people-centred and modern power systems is important in ensuring that Africa makes the most of the benefits that come with huge renewable energy potential on the continent and avoid a potential lock-in to fossil fuel energy. Africa needs a just energy transition that creates a new energy system built on renewables, easily deployable and decentralised structures that promote livelihoods, protect and secure inter and intra-generational environmental and socio-economic rights of communities.
Power Shift Africa works with various stakeholders in the energy sector including civil society organizations and networks, academia, governments and media to develop policy and practise tools, frameworks and guidelines which simultaneously address issues of energy security, universal access to affordable, reliable, people-centred renewable energy and just energy transitions in Africa.
